The UHB is proud to unveil it's newly re-designed Commissioner's Cup.

This trophy will be presented next season to the Yahoo! league's head-to-head champion with the winner's team name printed vertically on opposite sides.

In addition, a video tribute will be created on our YouTube channel to commemorate the event. Visit our channel by clicking on the YouTube icon is the sidebar.

This trophy is only presented to the UHB head-to-head league champion. UHB2 does not receive a trophy.

UHB Keeper League Players

The deadline for naming your 5 keeper players in the UHB fantasy league has been extended. Originally set for July 10th,2011, managers now have until Sept. 25th to lock in their top 5 keepers.

If you are one of the returning managers from last season, note that you can pick any 5 players at any position but starting the season after next, you must select one player for each position. To clarify, for the 2011-12 fantasy season, you will select any 5 players. For the 2012-13 season, you will select 1C, 1RW, 1LW, 1D and 1G. Keep this in mind when you will be drafting the rest of your roster as you will want to have at least one great player at each position.

For players that are listed at more than one position, you must indicate as to which position you are keeping him. For example, if a player is listed as LW/D, you must choose to keep him either as a LW or a D. If you designate that player a D, then you are eligible to choose another player to fill in the LW position and vice versa.

Congratulations Tim Thomas & Boston Bruins! 2011 Stanley Cup Champs

Tim Thomas capped off a tremendous regular season with an even greater performance in the playoffs, earning himself the Conn Smythe trophy as the MVP of the playoffs. More importantly, he led the Boston Bruins to their first Stanley Cup championship in 39 years.

This, coming one season later after what many considered a lacklustre 2009-10 season, leading some to speculate that Thomas was no longer an elite goaltender.



As a result of his decline in stats last season, it was reflected in his draft position in 2010-11 fantasy leagues. Many managers ranked Thomas much lower than they had the previous year.

In the UHB fantasy league, Robin's Runners got Thomas at a bargain, picking him in the 14th round, 132nd overall.

In another league, the Bruins' stopper was chosen in the 15th round, 230th overall.

But the steal of the century has to be the manager who committed grand larceny by drafting the eventual playoff MVP in the 21st round, 322nd overall!

What did these teams get in return for their late-rounds pick? Just have a look at the stats above to see what has probably earned him another Vezina trophy. Along with the 35 wins and 9 shutouts, the goaltender set an NHL record for save percentage with .938%, breaking Dominek Hasek's record. Not too shabby!

What's New With UHB?

It has been way too long since the last post on this blog. However, I have been working on ways to improve the UHB and it has taken me until now to unveil the results and future plans.

First of all, UHB has an updated logo design that is much more representative of what the league is compared to the former one. You'll be able to find this new logo on various swag in the official UHB gift shop.



Second, I would like to congratulate Texas Tornado on capturing the 2011 UHB championship and Commissioner's Cup. It was another great season and hopefully next one will be just as good or better.

Third, UHB now has an official YouTube channel which will be used, among other things, to commemorate the annual champion with a tribute video, such as the following one.



Furthermore, all arhive records will be kept and updated on the UHB Squidoo lens instead of on this blog. It's just much easier to edit on the former rather than the latter. I've yet to update the stats to reflect the recently completed season but am hoping to get it done soon, before the start of next season at the latest.

Fantrax Fantasy Hockey League

 Another fantasy hockey league was just created, this time using Fantrax. It's a head-to-head league with 16 teams and is free to join. The name of the league is H2H BLADES and the only requirement is that your team name contain the word BLADES.

2010-11 Fantasy Hockey Season

It's time to sharpen your managerial skills as we prepare for the upcoming fantasy hockey season.

There are a few changes from last year that are worth mentioning. There will be three different leagues this year.

1. UHB http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/uhb
2. BLADES http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/hockeyblades
3. BLADES 2 http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/blades2

There are 16 teams in each league. 1 and 2 are head-to-head leagues while 3 is a rotisserie league. 1 is the only league that is returning from last year while 2 and 3 are brand new leagues. If you were in the UHB last year, check your e-mail for your invitation. For the other 2 leagues, the passwords are blades and blades2 for whoever wants to enter either. First come, first served.

All leagues are free to enter with only the UHB winner receiving a prize from the UHB store. Weekly records for the UHB will no longer be recorded.
